An African adventure to Dar Es Salaam - this epic 14-day journey travels through South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania and is one of the most famous train journeys in the world. The ultimate African Safari for passengers wishing to relive the adventure and romance of a bygone era, travelling in complete luxury, comfort and security.

Included in this journey are short tours of Matjiesfontein, the diamond town of Kimberley and the capital city of Pretoria. Then a two-night stay in a private game lodge, before crossing into Zimbabwe, with another overnight stop at the Victoria Falls Hotel. After crossing the mighty Zambezi River travel north eastwards through Zambia, joining the Tazara Railway line. Take an excursion at Kasama to Chisimba Falls, and continue the climb towards the Zambian/Tanzanian border. Descend through spectacular scenery, the pass to Mlimba. On the last day continue the journey through Mzenga to Dar es Salaam.

 Day 1

 

 

 1100 hours:

 

Depart Cape Town Station on the Rovos Rail Edwardian Safari.

 1800 hours:

 

Arrive Matjiesfontein, time to explore this Victorian village before dinner and overnight on the train.

 

 

 

 Day 2

 1230 hours:

 

Lunch is served.

 1400 hours:

 

Arrive Kimberley. Visit to the Big Hole and Diamond Museum.

 1600 hours:

 

Depart Kimberley.
Dinner and overnight on train.

 

 

 

 Day 3

 1130 hours:

 

Arrive in Pretoria. Light lunch followed by a City Tour of Pretoria.

 1800 hours:

 

Depart Pretoria.

 

 

 

 Day 4

 1100 hours:

 

Arrive Zeerust for full board two night stay at 5 Star Tau Game Lodge.

 

 

 

 Day 5

 

 

Early morning game drive, evening game drive or guest activities.
Overnight at lodge.

 

 

 

 Day 6

 

 

Early morning game drive.
Transfer to train.

 1200 hours:

 

Depart Gaberone, Botswana. Border formalities en route.

 

 

 

 Day 7

 0600 hours:

 

After border formalities travel through Zimbabwe with morning and afternoon lectures provided by the historian.

 

 

 

 Day 8

 1000 hours:

 

Arrive at Victoria Falls. Transfer from Station to the Victoria Falls Hotel.

 1600 hours:

 

Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River.

 1830 hours:

 

Optional African Spectacular Show.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

 

 

 Day 9

 

 

Day at leisure - tour of the falls, game of golf, Flight of the Angels, etc.
Transfer to station.

 1500 hours:

 

Depart Victoria Falls for Zimbabwe and Zambian border formalities.

 

 

 

 Day 10

 1300 hours:

 

Pass through Lusaka. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board with lectures in the morning and afternoon.

 

 

 

 Day 11

 

 

Day at leisure. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board with lectures in the morning and afternoon.

 

 

 

 Day 12

 0800 hours:

 

Disembark at Kasama for excursion to Chisimba Falls.

 1615 hours:

 

Arrive Nakonde/Tunduma for Zambian/Tanzanian border controls.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board.

 

 

 

 Day 13

 1000 hours:

 

Arrive in Makambako. Descend the spectacular pass to Mlimba.

 

 

 

 Day 14

 0100 hours:

 

Arrive in Kiduna and continue the journey through Mzenga to Dar es Salaam.
Breakfast on board.

 1000 hours:

 

Arrive Tazara Station, Dar es Salaam.

 Day 1

 

 

 1200 hours:

 

Depart from Tazara Station, Dar es Salaam on the Rovos Rail Edwardian Safari with dinner and overnight on the train.

 

 

 

 Day 2

 1400 hours:

 

Arrive in Makambako en route to Tunduma. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board.

 

 

 

 Day 3

 0600 hours:

 

Arrive in Tunduma/Nakonde for Tanzanian/Zambian border controls.

 1430 hours:

 

Arrive in Kasama. Excursion to Chisimba Falls. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board the train.

 

 

 

 Day 4

 1200 hours:

 

Pass through Serenje. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board with lectures in the morning and afternoon.

 

 

 

 Day 5

 0950 hours:

 

Pass through Lusaka, then Kafue and Choma at 1230. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board.

 

 

 

 Day 6

 1200 hours:

 

Arrive in Livingstone/Victoria Falls for Zambian/Zimbabwean border formalities.
Transfer to the Victoria Falls Hotel.
Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River.
African Spectacular Show
Dinner and overnight at the Victoria Falls Hotel.

 

 

 

 Day 7

 

 

Day at leisure - tour of the Falls, game of golf, Flight of the Angels, river rafting, etc.

 1700 hours:

 

Transfer to the station and depart Victoria Falls. Dinner and overnight on the train.

 

 

 

 Day 8

 0800 hours:

 

Bypass Bulawayo en route to Plumtree with breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Overnight on the train.

 

 

 

 Day 9

 1000 hours:

 

Arrive in Gaberone and transfer to 5 star Tau Game Lodge for full board 2 night stay.

 

 

 

 Day 10

 

 

After breakfast, guest activities i.e. guided walk or game drive. Overnight at lodge.

 

 

 

 Day 11

 1230 hours:

 

Depart from Zeerust and travel via the Magaliesberg to Pretoria.

 

 

 

 Day 12

 1000 hours:

 

Arrive in Pretoria. Light lunch, city tour of Pretoria.

 1500 hours:

 

Depart Pretoria for Cape Town.

 

 

 

 Day 13

 0945 hours:

 

Arrive in Kimberley. Visit to the Big Hole and the Diamond Museum.
