BOTSWANA, a large landlocked country located in southern africa, where vast areas of land have been allocated for the preservation of wildlife with many national parks and wildlife management areas. There are diverse areas of wildlife habitat with the dominating Kalahari Desert to the southwest comprising sand, savanna and grassland, hilly bush to the east and in the northwest, the Okavango River empties into the Kalahari Desert, creating the worlds largest inland river delta.
Most of the year it is hot and dry with an unpredictable wet season in the summer months. Game viewing is at its best during the dry season when numerous animals such as lions, elephants, hyenas, buffalo, monkeys, hippopotamus and crocodiles may be seen congregating at waterholes of the Okavango Delta. Blue Wildebeest, antelopes and birds can be found in the savannah and in northern Botswana the endangered African wild dog may be found.
