Destination Africa PRETORIA TO CAPE TOWN     rovos rail   |   map

African Collage - a 9 day journey operating in May travelling from Pretoria through Witbank and Middleburg, traversing the Drakensberg escarpment en route to the lowveld of Mpumalanga. The following morning join a game drive through Kruger Park. Wind southwards to Swaziland in time for an afternoon game drive in the Mkhaya Reserve. During the night continue south to the village of Hluhluwe in Zululand for a game drive at Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Depart mid morning arriving in Durban late afternoon. After an evening in Durban, the train steadily ascends the scenic escarpment through Pietermaritzburg and The Valley of a Thousand Hills en route to Ladysmith and Bethlehem. This route takes the train past Lesotho and the highest mountains in the Drakensberg range at 3,482 metres. During the night continue onto Bloemfontein for a morning tour of the the city.

Continue southwards overnight to Port Elizabeth, for a morning visit to the Addo Elephant Park. After an early morning departure from Willowmore, visit the Highgate Ostrich Farm in Oudtshoorn followed by a spectacular rail descent down the Montagu pass into George. A morning visit to Knysna and the surrounding attractions. The train then sets off at midday travelling along the scenic garden route through Mossel Bay and Riversdale. The next morning after a short visit to the KWV Brandy Distillery in Worcester, the journey ends at Cape Town.


 

 

Pretoria to Cape Town

 1000 hours:

 

Depart Pretoria from Rovos Rail's private Capital Park Station.

 

 

 

 Friday, 22 May

 

 

 0500 hours:

 

Wake up call for game drive in the Kruger Park in open vehicles.

 1100 hours:

 

Brunch is served in the dining car while the train travels through Komatipoort to the Swaziland border.

 1530 hours:

 

Arrive Mkhaya Reserve for afternoon game drive.

 2000 hours:

 

The train departs for overnight journey to Hluhluwe in Zululand.

 

 

 

 Saturday, 23 May

 

 

 0500 hours:

 

Wake up call for a game drive in the Hluhluwe Reserve.

 0930 hours:

 

The train departs Hluhluwe for Durban.

 1800 hours:

 

Arrive Durban for an evening in the city.

 

 

 

 Sunday, 24 May

 

 

 0600 hours:

 

Depart Durban en route to Bloemfontein

 

 

Day at leisure on board.

 

 

   

 Monday, 25 May

 1000 hours:

 

Tour of Bloemfontein.

 1300 hours:

 

Depart Bloemfontein en route to Port Elizabeth.

 

 

 

 Tuesday, 26 May

 0900 hours:

 

Tour of Addo Elephant Park near Port Elizabeth.

 1200 hours:

 

The train departs Port Elizabeth for Oudtshoorn.

 

 

 

 Wednesday, 27 May

 1000 hours:

 

Arrive Oudtshoorn for Ostrich Farm visit.

 1530 hours:

 

Arrive George for afternoon at leisure.

 1830 hours:

 

Depart for dinner at Fancourt Golf Estate.

 

 

 

 Thursday, 28 May

 0900 hours:

 

Depart for morning tour of Knysna.

 1330 hours:

 

Depart George.

 

 

 

 Friday, 29 May

 1100 hours:

 

Arrive Worcester for KWV Brandy Distillery Tour.

 1700 hours:
